Cranksgiving Milwaukee 2015 results

Kids participated in the ride to help the hungry. Cranksgiving photos by Zach Seib Photography

The results are in for Milwaukee’s 2015 Cranksgiving race/ride. Participants were given a randomized manifest that needed to be reorganized to find the fastest route. Each rider was responsible for hitting up 6 grocery stores and purchasing specific non-perishable food and sanitary items and getting back to the final location as fast as possible.

The twist for this year’s race was a food drive within the food drive. Riders were required to double up their purchase at their stop of choice and drop off those items at another food drive happening simultaneously in another part of the city.

That food drive brought in over 600lbs of food, so between the two, we helped bring in over 1,100lbs of food for the hungry.

Thanks to Zach Seib Photography for the photos. See more here.

The stats:

Weather: 55°F and sunny

Total weight: 477.63lbs

Money spent: Over $1,000 (estimated).
We forgot to tell riders to keep their receipts, and while most did, we did not count it against the riders if they didn’t bring them in.

Distance:
Route A: 6 stores + bonus stop over 22 miles
Route B: 6 stops + bonus stop over 14 miles
Route C: 4 stops over 5 miles. Nobody raced this route, but we still think it’s important to include this route in future races to encourage more families to participate.

Start time: 12:10PM

Rider count:
Male: 21
Female: 20

Pregnant riders: 1

Youth: 2

National Night Out

0804151644-00

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.

National Night Out in Milwaukee was sponsored by Milwaukee Police and sponsored by local community businesses like Harley Davidson to have a safe, family-oriented evening of fun, games, and food.

The Milwaukee Bicycle Collective was asked to participate due to our close proximity to the area, as well as our community service oriented mission of providing low cost transportation and education to the Merrill Park area. We were also on hand to provide repair services for bikes as well as providing information about the shop and its mission to members of the community.

We had a quite successful give away of over 85 bicycles given to the children ages 6yrs and under!
