Fighting winter biking vikings

Sponsor the Milwaukee Winter Bike Challenge

For the past 6 years the Milwaukee Bicycle Collective’s annual Winter Bike Party has gone through many iterations. It started as a Q&A forum, then morphed into a panel, eventually becoming a full-blown panel + party + fundraiser. Through every iteration, learning how to ride through the winter and maintain your bicycle has always been a key part of it. With ~250 attendees we raised $1200 at last year’s party.

In it’s 7th year, we want to turn this Winter Bike Party thing on its head. We want to take that knowledge and advocacy party and stretch it over 5 months. We need your help.

We have developed the Winter Bike Challenge, a social selfie scavanger hunt. There will be 25 spaces featuring 25 goals to accomplish between the months of November to March. The goal is to get people out and enjoying what many consider to be the least fun season of the year.

Additionally, we would like to use this platform for good-weather cycling advocacy in general (such as parklets, protected bike lanes, pedestrian bridges, and neighborhood greenways).

How it works

The goals are divided into three categories. 10 self-guided activities. 5 meetups. And 10 sponsors to visit. This is where you come in.

By the end of March we want to award an exclusive mid-weight cycling jacket to those who successfully survive the winter and completed the objectives on the card. We are looking for 10 sponsors to contribute $500 each to help raise $5,000 to offset the cost of those jackets.

What’s in it for you?

  1. Social branding: Your name/brand will be associated with all social media including the Facebook page/event and included in other assorted social media presences.
  2. 5-months of Activity: The event will take place over the course of 5 months (November-March), so every time we talk about it, you’ll be associated with the event.
  3. Fridge placement: Your logo will have a spot on the Winter Bike Challenge board. These boards and your brand will be tacked up on refrigerators for 5 months as the goals are accomplished.
  4. A guaranteed visit: Because your logo is on the board, participants will be required to visit your business and accomplish whatever inexpensive or free goal you set forth.
  5. Social spread: Because of the inherent social aspect of these mini-events, participants will be sharing and hashtagging their adventures with their friends on social media. That multiplies your visibility.
  6. Sponsored content: Through each month we’ll be writing on our blog about winter cycling and general cycling advocacy. Your name/logo will be included in each post as a sponsor.
  7. More sponsored content: If you have an employee who rides through the winter, we can do an interview with them for our blog and get their thoughts and opinions.
  8. Media attention: Your brand will be mentioned in any Milwaukee media attention we obtain (radio, television, websites, etc.).
  9. People who are exciting spend money: Your brand will be in front of adventurous people who like Milwaukee, who don’t let weather slow them down, and who like to get out and do things. (Google “Cyclists spend more.”)
  10. The jacket: Your logo will be on the sleeve of the exclusive jacket.

So what do I have to do?

We need to raise $500 from 10 sponsors by October 16 to offset the cost of the jackets. Beyond that, you don’t have to do anything else. If you want to contribute more, we can upgrade your logo from the sleeve to the rear jersey pocket. Further upgrades are open for negotiation.

Price Structure
Bronze | Sleeve | $500
Silver | Jersey Pocket | $1000
Gold | Negotiable | $1500-$4500
Exclusive | Get the whole jacket to yourself (plus whichever sponsors signed up before you) | $5000

That’s it. Since most of this event is self-guided and verified via selfies, all the work falls on our shoulders. We don’t expect you to keep track of anything.

The Bottom Line

Your contribution will help gain recognition for our non-profit bike shop, promote fun in winter, promote cycling advocacy, and get you 5 months of exciting, exclusive, and constant exposure.
