The Milwaukee Bicycle Collective is a volunteer-driven, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps provide individuals, groups, and events with refurbished bicycles. We also assist with bike repair and instruction in a creative and supportive environment and at an affordable cost. We have been working since 2002 to create a world where human powered transportation is the norm and available to everyone.

Donating a bike
We accept donations of bicycles, parts, tools and other accessories during open shop hours. We do not do pick ups. Donation receipts are available for tax write-off purposes.
Open Shop – Fixing your bike (DIY)
We take a white-gloved approach to fixing your bike. Volunteers can help explain how to fix your bike, but it’s up to you to do the work. DIY stands are available first-come/first-served. The suggested donation for the use of of tools and repair stands is $5-10 after the first 30 minutes. We retain the right to limit stand time as our needs evolve.
Open Shop – Volunteering and earning a bike
If you would like to volunteer, stop by the shop and we’ll get you started. We always need good mechanics, but if you’re willing to learn or willing to help out in other ways, we’ll work something out.
After readying two bikes for sale (or volunteering in other tangible ways) a volunteer may begin putting their hours towards earning a bike. Volunteer time credit is deducted from the price of the bike at a rate of $3/hr. Volunteers are limited to one bike per year.
Think you can’t fix a bike? We beg to differ. Come in and prove yourself wrong.
We give away bikes to youths through partner organizations only and events such as the annual District Three National Night Out. All youth bikes are refurbished and given a safety check by a qualified mechanic. We also fix bikes for youth (pending time and volunteer availability). Youth bikes are available for purchase, with most youth bikes priced $5 – $30.
